Creating a welcoming space for park patrons
Project Story
The City of Brentwood has embarked on a comprehensive planning effort, Brentwood Bound, which occurs along Manchester Road between Hanley Road and Brentwood Blvd. As part of this effort, the City worked with Christner to design a new multi-use event building in Brentwood Park with approximately 6,000 square feet of interior space and an outdoor patio with a fireplace.

The Work
Sited adjacent to the new arrival parking area, one important design goal was to create a strong connection between the park, adjacent event lawn space, and the pavilion itself. A protected terrace along the east side of the project works toward this aim, with glass façades on two sides of the space providing views, and three sets of double doors which create a comfortable indoor/outdoor flow. Use of natural materials throughout the pavilion helps to create a welcoming space, and a central breezeway forms a protected arrival/threshold experience becoming a symbolic entry to the larger Brentwood Park.
