Adding classroom capacity with a new student learning center
Project Story
As Missouri S&T continues to experience increasing enrollment, there has been an urgent need for additional classroom space, specifically for general undergraduate courses. The computer science building was selected as the site for a major addition that adds significant classroom capacity. The Student Classroom Learning Center addition also includes targeted renovations to the existing Computer Science building.

The Work
The project includes four 100-seat classrooms, one 300-seat lecture hall, and a new entry lobby. Renovations to the Computer Science building also incorporate accessibility and life safety upgrades.
The design for the classroom addition addresses the two challenges of a constrained site and limited budget by connecting to the existing computer science building. In doing so, the addition benefits from the robust life-safety and systems infrastructure of the existing building, while reinforcing the edge of the quad to the south. The resulting design manages the different floor heights between the existing and new with a split-level stair and elevator located at the new entrance, serving both buildings, with an improved campus presence.
